What to ask in an adoption survey
Between twenty five and forty questions, all of them answerable.
A question works on a maturity scale if a person can look at how the work actually happens and place it. 'Is a change record created before the change?' works. 'How will automation affect our change process?' does not, and it is the shape most question banks are full of.
Keep it under forty. Past that the last third is answered at speed and you have bought noise. Under twenty five and one strong opinion moves an area score.
Freeze the set before the first send. A question added in round two makes round two incomparable to round one, and the comparison was the point.
